I found this perfect corner to place Him, where everybody could see Him. And just as I felt, most of them whose eyes fell on Him, felt this magnetic pull and they couldn’t help exclaiming how beautiful He looked. They couldn’t help but go up to Him, to get a closer look, possibly admire the sheer beauty that was emanating from Him and probably even touch Him to feel for themselves more of what was emanating from Him.
I was a little taken aback by people’s reaction. Others felt the same way too! What was it that I along with others was feeling? What was it about Him that felt so captivating?
The answer came to me after few moments of reflection. We all saw in that Buddha what we wanted to feel inside, the calmness, the serenity, the tranquillity and the peace that is missing from our present lives. With his golden robes, He wants to say, I can stay attached to this materialistic world and still find my peace. The world will be tranquil for you, if you first find your inner peace and happiness inside you irrespective of what chaos you live in. The closed eyes seemed to say all of you can go rushing off to catch your bus or train or your life, but I am going to walk at my pace. More importantly it seemed to signify His all important message to us – See no evil, learn to see from the eyes of your heart, de-clutter your mind of the garbage and fill it with fresh vision, wider perspectives and cleaner outlooks! That’s when you will know real peace!
When you know that peace, you will be beautiful, not just to yourself, but that beauty will reach out and touch others around you. Just as this Buddha did as He continues to look in the direction of distant pink skies silhouetted by the setting Sun.
