you! By the legendary Paul Young.
Both these events made me pause, smile wistfully and sit back and contemplate. The farewell video had this beautiful portion, where the camera person walked through the corridors of the school while all the students stood on either sides talking to their friends. As the camera moved, the students turned back to smile at the camera and wave a goodbye with the backdrop of some melancholic music! Sounds like a typical moving farewell video but it succeeded in not just touching a misty chord but tugging at it too. When I heard Paul Young crooning away that particular song I immediately went back in time reliving the pleasure it gave me.
Looking back from where I am I have come to understand and realize, when we say farewell, it’s never fully a farewell in its true sense. It’s just the lengthening of this attached cord that lets us roam free, while we think it’s a clean snip and cry our eyes out. Our lives are a massive network of multitude of such cords that serves as our sustenance. We can always go back and get our fill. We can always reconnect!
Every time we have to go, we always take a piece! Whether it is from school, college, work place, our bachelorhood, our marriage, our love, our homes, our parents, and people close to us or from this Earth itself, we are always attached; we always take a little piece and carry it with us as we move forward. And it is these pieces that go on to make us whole and who we are at the end of our journey. We move forward, but the connection is always there.
Every maple leaf that falls has seen the glorious colors of spring, summer and autumn. And as it finally falls at the twilight hour after braving many a harsh wind, the droplets of rain and the glorious sunshine, it is with happiness at having known all of it, and in the knowledge that it wouldn't have it any other way!
