What actually clutched us was when we heard that the place was started by a young lady, who seemed barely out of college. We wondered what a youngster would know about starting a business at this age. But the young entrepreneur surprised us by saying that she dropped out of college to apprentice in many cafes and bistros abroad for four years, earning and learning it all before coming back and starting something here on her own. Her eyes twinkled with hope and shone with infectious self-belief.
I don’t know if I’d have the courage to set my child free with the go-ahead to head out with a back pack, traverse through the world, pick up his or her own experiences and learning on their own like that. The parent in me would worry its head off since it’s our contention that we know the big, bad world out there and what is waiting for them. But it has also been my realisation that we are curtailing the dreams of our children with our fears. Did we know we were going to fall when we started walking? Even when we did, did that stop us from trying again and again till we got it? Here is a new brigade of such enterprising young women and men, who want to do it on their own and their own terms. They set forth armed with hope, self-confidence and positivity in their backpacks and a spring in their steps to realise their dreams.
Our mindsets need revamping! While they believe so much in themselves I think it’s a credit to us that they do so and it’s only fair that we believe in them too. Mistakes are bound to happen, but that’s the only way our children will learn. Even if they do fall, we are there aren’t we? Let us give our children wings, let’s set them free, and watch them take flight, while we revel as they soar!
The hot and delicious creamy pasta with generous sprinklings of chilli and garlic flakes, the mouth-watering corn cheese chilly nuggets, the tangy mojito and brownie dripping with chocolate sauce and ice-cream are best testimonies to it!
